The Autumn Drive project came to us at just the right time. While wrapping up phase one of the Treehouse restoration, we were approached about building a carriage house in Whistler. “Sure,” we said, “send us the drawings.” When the plans came through, it was clear this was going to be something special.
The concept, designed by Scott & Scott Architects, immediately stood out. The structure would feature exposed structural walls and traditional timber bents, with all the insulation placed on the exterior. For us, this was cutting-edge design—a blend of old-world craftsmanship with innovative modern techniques. We could already picture the warmth of the wood walls and ceilings, and the sense of serenity they would bring to the forested setting.
The build was as rewarding as it was detailed. Every timber, every joint, and every surface had to be perfect to meet the high standards set by the design. The exposed wood became the soul of the house, creating a natural, calming atmosphere that feels like it belongs in the heart of Whistler. The layout was intentionally simple yet elegant, with open spaces that invite light and movement.
What we loved most about this project was how it honoured the surrounding environment. The forest becomes part of the home’s character, with the traditional timber framing grounding it in timeless craftsmanship. At the same time, the modern insulation techniques ensured it would be energy-efficient and practical for daily living.
This was one of those projects where every detail mattered, and the result is a space that feels effortless yet carefully considered. It’s a place where you can truly exhale—a serene retreat that embodies both the architectural vision and the natural beauty of Whistler. We’re incredibly proud to have brought this design to life and grateful for the opportunity to work on such a unique and satisfying project.
